As we conclude our series on our Mexico wedding ceremony, I'm excited to share three unique elements that made our celebration truly memorable. Our goal was to infuse joy and fun into the ceremony, making it a reflection of our personalities and love story, especially considering Dan and I were already legally married for almost two months by this point.
First up, let's talk about the unexpected star of the show—the peanut butter and jelly sandwich! With plans to incorporate Filipino unity traditions like the veil, cord, and coins into our upcoming ceremony in New Jersey, we decided to do something playful and unconventional in Mexico. As avid food lovers, we thought what better way to symbolize unity than by making a sandwich together? It was a light-hearted and joyous moment that perfectly captured our relationship. Fun fact: Dan and I even dressed up as PB&J for Halloween during our early dating years!
Next, we wanted to involve our guests directly in our vows. After sharing our unity sandwich, Dan and I turned to face our loved ones and made a pledge. We vowed to seek and cherish every moment of joy and celebration with those standing before us, and in turn, our guests promised to do the same. It was a powerful and inclusive moment that reinforced the importance of community in our marriage.
Lastly, as a couple who values faith, we felt it was important to include a prayer in our ceremony. We invited our guests to join us in prayer as my brother, serving as our officiant, offered a heartfelt prayer to God, acknowledging Him as the true source of joy and celebration. His words resonated deeply with us and set the tone for the rest of the ceremony.
And, with a touch of humor and spontaneity, our officiant, E, kicked off the celebration with the unforgettable words, "Let's get lit. Dan, you may now kiss your wife." It was the perfect blend of lightheartedness and sincerity, setting the stage for a joyous celebration of love.
